Baubles

I have some junk on my work desk. Here's WatchMojo's top ten baubles, desk pets, and paraphernalia I keep at work.

This is a red Swingline 747 stapler near enough to the one in the movie Office Space. The one in the movie is actually painted red, because they were not manufacturing this model in red at the time of filming. Was this one of the staplers made in response to demand driven by the movie, or was it made before its discontinuation? We just don't know. I have had to unjam it a few times, but it makes me a bit happy, so I won't trade it with one of the other, newer staplers lying around the office.

Here's the Far Side off-the-wall purchased from Toys R Us, believe it or not (they're back apparently). I haven't seen Cow Tools, yet, but I have seen the Thag Simmons panel.

Here's a white knight from the Medieval Times restaurant my wife and I visited in Dallas, TX. Man, I really cheaped out on this souvenir. I deserve better than this.

Here's Snoopy in a Halloween mask from a Peanuts figure blind box. My wife gave it to me because his mask is too scary for her work desk. I like him.



This Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a reproduction of a toy they actually made in the early '90s. I had a Raphael second hand without all the weapons circa 1992, and now I have all four turtles with all their little accessories. They are stored in his shell. Get out of my face if you don't think this is rad as Hell.

In 1995 Taco Bell introduced a Congo promotional tie-in burrito "piled high with seasoned beef, rice, beans, a blend of three cheeses, and fiery red sauce". At 99 cents the Volcano Burrito sounds like a steal, except it was made by Taco Bell, so it probably wasn't very good. But the commercial was cool. Maybe I'm not meant for internet "fandom", such that it is. I don't read/write fanfics, roleplay, excessively meme--I don't even dabble in shipping; it's all pretty odd to me. I do let myself get pulled into discourse, once in a while, because my two vices of choice are analysis and fashioning opinions/arguments. I suppose it's a bit immature to be a little smarty-pants online, but it keeps my brain from going totally smooth (that and sudoku). So anyway, there's this famous tweet: Excellent, good satire of how people  in online spaces engage with various types of brands. Did you know that clover lawns require much less water and mowing than stupid grass lawns? Actually, did you know that clover lawns are a thing? Clovers crowd out weeds, promote grass growth, enrich the soil with nitrogen, encourage pollinators, and feed wildlife. So, they are better than grass in every conceivable way. Lawn care companies want you to believe they are undesirable weeds, but don't believe them. It isn't easy, though. It takes work, and there is a learning curve.
